Ek Tha Tiger (Hindi: एक तारीख) is a 2012 Indian action thriller spy film directed, co-written and co-produced by Kabir Khan. It is the second installment in the Ek Tha Tiger series after Ek Tha Tiger. The film stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Irrfan Khan in lead roles. The story is about a RAW agent who falls prey to blackmail from Pakistani Intelligence Agency ISI when his girlfriend comes under attack. He is then left with no option but to help the Pakistani agent that he has been asked to investigate. The film was officially announced in May 2011, with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif reprising their roles from "Ek Tha Tiger". The principal photography began in Istanbul, Turkey on June 2, 2011, which also marked the start of filming for other films such as "Agneepath" and "Dabangg 2". The film received mixed reviews from critics. Critics found the film engaging despite its slow pace, but criticized it for excessive violence and an illogical storyline. The film opened to an occupancy of 85-90% across India, and has had some of the biggest opening days for a Bollywood film. It was also the second highest grosser of the year. The story follows a RAW agent Tiger (Salman Khan). Tiger is assigned to investigate ISI agent Hamid Gul (Feroz Khan). Upon arriving in Vienna, Austria, Tiger poses as Gopi Sharma who supposedly belongs to an NGO called 'Save Tigers'. After arriving in Pakistan with fake documents, Tiger meets his ISI contact "Ronny", who later introduces him to his boss "Rana". Rana claims that a RAW agent is trying to kill Hamid Gul and Tiger is assigned to protect him. Tiger is told that if he fails, the life of his girlfriend Zoya (Katrina Kaif) will be in danger. Tiger later visits Zoya, who is surprised to see him. He tries to explain the situation, but she doesn't believe him and calls Ronny instead. Ronny then explains that he isn't a RAW agent and takes her with him. Tiger saves Ronny from a police chase and goes to the airport, where he finds out that Ronny has taken Zoya as a hostage. Upon confronting him, he finds out that he is not the real ISI agent. Tiger then calls Rana for help, who then reveals that he is actually Gopi Sharma. He also tells Tiger that Zoya doesn't know anything about his mission and she will be freed once Hamid Gul is captured. The two come up with a plan to capture Hamid Gul without directly involving Zoya or India's reputation in Pakistan's eyes.
